General information and precautions

General information

The front suspension is of independent type with MacPherson struts. The strut assembly on each side is controlled transversely by a fabricated lower (track control) arm whilst the fore and aft control is by means of a tie-bar connected between the lower arm and a mounting bracket on the chassis. The righthand tie-bar on the XR2 model differs from that fitted to other models in the range.

The rear suspension is of five-point link type and consists of the axle beam, coil springs, double-acting telescopic shock absorbers, a Panhard rod and trailing arms. Certain models are also fitted with an anti-roll bar.

The steering is of rack and pinion type, with a safety steering column which incorporates a jointed lower shaft and a convoluted column tube.

Precautions

When the front wheels are raised, avoid turning the steering wheel rapidly from lock-tolock. This could cause hydraulic pressure buildup, with consequent damage to the bellows.
