Operations possible without removing engine from vehicle
The following work can be carried out without having to remove the engine:
a) Timing belt - renewal
b) Camshaft oil seal - renewal
c) Camshaft - removal and refitting
d) Crankshaft front oil seal - renewal*
e) Sump - removal and refitting
f) Piston/connecting rod - removal and refitting
g) Engine/transmission mountings - removal and refitting
*Note: Replacement of the crankshaft front oil seal with the engine in situ is made difficult by restricted access. Accurate fitting of the new seal in this position will only be possible using Ford special tool number 21-093 (or a similar fabricated distance piece) used, together with the crankshaft timing belt pulley retaining bolt, to draw the new seal into position against the stop. In view of this, partial removal of the engine and transmission may well be necessary to renew this seal.
